Waterloo Boxers Shine at the Ontario Winter Games
WRBA recently traveled to the Ontario Winter Games held in Orillia from March 1-4, 2018. The actual boxing portion took place at the North Simcoe Sports and Rec Complex in Midland Ontario.
In total, WRBA traveled with 11 athletes (largest team in the tournament)…of which 4 were females and 6 athletes were making their boxing debut. This was also the first tournament for Coach Tevin and Coach John. Both recently completed their Level 2 NCCP and were immediately put to the test. Over the 4 day tournament both coaches would have to deal with almost every coaching issue possible! The overall Team dynamic was amazing.between coaches and athletes and “The Dream Team” received many positive comments from the Organizing Committee, Boxing Ontario and other Coaches. Both coaches also had the opportunity to work alongside National Team Coaches Jill Perry and Jorge Luis.
Team WRBA consisted of Athletes Stanislau Pratousky, Justin Marquez, Tatianna Antunes, Katelyn Vanderlaan, William Yol Cano, Thayden Brown, Ethan Tschoegl, Fue Vang, Laina Stewart, Kyla Rodrigue, and Abdul Khader
Each athlete/coach were outfitted in WRBA T-shirts, Hoodies, Touques and a Red Stormtech jacket. All swag was embroidered with our club logo by Bhindi Kahlon, Tanvir’s mother. Thanks to Bhindi for making us look so great!
Transportation to and back from Midland was by Limo! The SUV limo allowed for the entire team to travel together. The Limo was supplied by Sayad Shah, owner of Alpha Limo of Cambridge….again thanks to Sayad for supporting our boxing club and John our driver for getting us there and back safely.
Final Medal Count – Gold – 7 Silver – 4 Bronze – 0
Good luck to Tat, Kat, Willie and Coach LeVar for the Nationals from March 23-April 1 in Edmonton!
